Finnair Pilots' Big Band is a semi-professional, full-fledged orchestra that consists of both active and retired Finnair airline pilots. This makes us reportedly the only pilot-only big band in the world!
The story of Finnair Pilots' Big Band goes all the way back to year 1971 when a small group of pilots gathered to play in honour of retiring chief pilot. After the successful start, the band kept on going and growing, eventually to the dimensions of a real big band.
One of the cornerstones of our big band throughout the years has always been professional and skilled conductors in front of us. Today, Finnair Pilots' Big Band is directed by mr. Martti Peippo, a musician with impressively wide-ranging personal skills and repertoaire.
